Helen Carey – American actress, born 13 January 1944 in Boston, Massachusetts, USA. A distinguished stage actress who has toured internationally (Ontario, Dublin, Washington, Broadway), she earned a Theatre World Award and a Tony Award nomination for London Assurance (1997), and has also appeared in Pygmalion, Anthony and Cleopatra, Macbeth, and Hedda Gabler (2009, as Juliane Tesman). She holds three Helen Hayes Awards for her Washington appearances. Her most notable film roles include a Federal Clerk in The Pelican Brief (1993), The Queen in Black Knight (2001), Miss Johnston in The Emperor's Club (2002), Jean in Little Children (2006, opposite Kate Winslet), Ellen Campbell in 21 (2008), Louisette Bertholle in Julie & Julia (2009), and Grace Brennan in The Next Three Days (2010, opposite Russell Crowe). On television she is best known for A.S.A. Maggie Conroy in Homicide: Life on the Street (1995–1997, 7 episodes), Charlotte Swan in Law & Order (1999–2005, 4 episodes), Peggy Fitzgerald in Brotherhood (2006–2007, 6 episodes), Judge Helen Davis in House (2007), and guest appearances in Seinfeld (1998), Without a Trace (2004), The Good Wife (2013), and Political Animals (2012).
